As may be表示“有权、可以”、“可能”等意思，在实际翻译操作中经常会发生混淆。因此，译者一定要根据上下文作出准确判断。例如：

        1、“有权、可以”
        such period as may be specified in the direction
        在指示中规定的期限
        注：表示发出指示的一方有权在指示中作出有关期限的规定。
        in a manner as may be so specified by the Employer
        按照发包方规定的施工方法
        注：表示发包方有权作出有关施工方法的规定。
        Agreement means this Intercompany Distribution and License agreement, the attached exhibits and any written amendment thereto as may be agreed upon between the parties.
        协议, 是指本公司间销售和许可协议及其附件以及双方之间随时达成的任何书面修订。
        注：表示双方可以对协议及其附件作出修订。
        A person making an application under subsection (1)(b) above shall pay to the Secretary of State such fee as may be prescribed.
        依照上文第(1)款第(b)项提出申请的人应当向国务卿支付规定的费用。
        注：表示国务卿或者相关部门可以作出有关申请费的规定。

        2、表示“可能”，例如
        All such funds as may be necessary to enable any fiscal agent described in paragraph (1) to carry out any guarantee…
        第(1)款所述的任何财政代理人提供任何担保所需的所有资金……
        注：表示提供担保时可能会需要资金
        maintain office space, facilities, and computer hardware and software as may be required to demonstrate the Products;
        维护产品演示所需的办公场所、设施和计算机软硬件;
        注：进行产品演示时可能会需要办公场所、设施和计算机软硬件。
